New cat owners and even long time cat owners assume that buying a cat tower is an easy choice, but they couldn’t be more wrong. I was like this at one time, until I learned my lesson the hard way. When I first got my cat, I bought the cheapest tower I could find, and of course my decision came with consequences.

It took less than a month for me to find out the difference between a cheap tower and a well built one. One day while jumping on his tower, my cat landed on the top floor and it gave way, sending him crashing down to the floor. While he was ok, the loose floor needed to be glued back together. That lasted about another week until it fell apart again.

This is when I decided to buy another tower, but first I talked to some experienced cat owners before buying my next one.. Here is a list of the tips they gave me to make the right decision:

  • Be sure to choose natural wood material over treated wood, which can be toxic. Many of these treated woods contain unnatural adhesives.
  • Many poor quality towers can get worn quickly. This not only makes it less enjoyable for your cat to scratch on, but the shabby appearance can really be an eyesore in your home. So be sure to to buy towers made of the highest quality fabrics.
  • Check to make sure that the glue used to bond the material is non-toxic.
  • You want to look for a tower that is put together using a combination of screws, nails and non-toxic glue. If the material is held together only using glue, this is a red flag that it will wear quickly.

By using the tips provided for you above, you should be able to find a high quality cat tower that your kitty will enjoy safely for many years to come!
