Cat climbers are a great way to keep your cat off your furniture and appliances. Every cat owner knows that if there is something to be climbed on, their kitty is going to find a way to get to the top of it. While it can be funny and cute to see them climb things, it can also ruin things around your house and be unsanitary when cats lay on tables and kitchen counters.

If you don’t like your dinner with a side of cat hair, then I would suggest you consider getting a cat climber. It not only keeps your cat happy, but it is a great form of exercise for them as well. Here are a few models under $200 that I have found:

SmartCat Multi-Level Cat Climber – this climber has 4 platform levels and is about 6 feet tall. It attaches to any standard size door and it can easily be taken off and put on any door around your home. It is made of sisal fibers, which means it will be durable and wear well. This generally costs around $85.

Kittywalk Cozy Cat Climber – this is a five story unit that also attaches to any normal sized door. It stretches out to 64 inches and includes several cubby holes where your cats can hide. It is constructed from PVC and is machine washable. It runs about $175.

Cat Craft Three Tier Cat Climbing Tree – this climber fits ceilings between 8-9 feet tall and has three carpeted platforms your car can climb on. This comes in around $70 and is probably the best bet for younger, more active cats.

A cat tree condo can be your cat’s best friend. A place where he finds shelter and safety from the big scary world he sees everyday. Being up high will make him feel safer and give him a place beside your counters, tables, fridge etc to lounge around on. Many cats love cat tree condos, but some prefer their natural surroundings more. Which is something you may want to think about when buying their condos, trees, etc.

While many of these cat trees are safe and sturdy in terms of structure, the way they are manufactured isn’t ideal for your cat. Most cat condo manufacturers use finished and painted wood for these structures. The wood and paint can contain deadly and harmful chemicals that simply aren’t good for your cat.

The fabrics and carpeting used on the cat towers are also treated and dyed with harsh chemicals, and the glue used to bond the fabric can also be harmful for your cat as well. Many people are unaware of this, and you can’t exactly count on the manufacturers to tell you. It simply would be bad business, obviously.

This is why you want to find a cat tree condo that is made from as many natural materials as possible. Such things as unfinished wood or bamboo are great alternatives. You will also want to find natural fabrics such as bamboo fibers which are well known for their durability and toughness. Also, there are many natural bonding agents that can be used as well. The best place to find these are online or to ask your local pet store employees if they have any catalogs that sell natural cat trees and condos.

It is your job to find out what kind of material is in the cat houses you are looking at and to put a little extra effort into finding the ones made with as many all natural materials as is possible.

A cat condo comes in a variety of styles. You have simple a simple kitty condo, and then you have the expensive ones that have more levels, platforms and hideaways. Since cats like heights, the taller it is, usually the better. Of course you will want to buy one that is sturdy and safe for your cat, however.

If you simply walk into your local pet store, you will notice there are a number of kitty condos and trees to choose from. Which is why I have recommended a few below from each price category from inexpensive to mid range and high end cat condos.

Cat Craft 1 Story Condo Tower – this is a simple model that includes a bottom cubbie hole where your cat can sleep and relax. The first story is simply a platform where he can lounge around or play with the spring toy attached to the platform. This is about as bare bones as you will find and runs about $30.

Armarkat Cat Tree (Model B5301) – here is a mid range cat tree that comes with a number of different levels and hideaways for your cat. I this made of faux fleece, which is a very durable material which holds up well to scratching and regular wear and tear. I’ve seen this run as low as $65 around town.

Armarkat Classic Cat Tree – this is an upgrade from their model above. It includes several extra levels and cub holes for your cat. It is ideal for a household that has multiple cats. It sells for about $100.

Another thing to consider is buying all natural cat trees and condos. These usually have to be bought from catalogs or they can be found online. They are made from natural woods, glues and fibers, making them a great all natural alternative.

A cat tree house can be a great gift for your cat. Cats like to climb and be in elevated spaces. This is why you will typically find cats sitting on windows, at the top of stairs, on furniture and even on your refrigerator. Cat tree houses not only give your cat a place to sleep and lounge around, they also serve as a scratching post as well.

Since cats feel very secure at higher elevations, you will want to find a cat tree that is around the same height as you if possible. Of course this isn’t a requirement, as you will find cat condos, cat gyms, and cat houses in various styles, heights and prices. Picking out the right one isn’t always easy, because each cat can have his or her own preferences.

Keep in mind that not all cats take to their tree houses, however. I have two cats and the youngest loves his cat condo, and spends many hours sleeping on it and relaxing. My oldest cat wants nothing to do with it, though. No matter how many times I put him on it, he simply refuses to be bothered. So if your cat doesn’t take a liking to the tree right away, its is likely he never will. Therefore, I would strongly suggest returning it after a week or two.

You will want to look for a cat tree that has a wide, solid base. This way it won’t topple over when your kitty jumps on it. Also, look for trees made out of faux fur, as it is very durable and it won’t look shoddy after a few months of scratching, like carpeting will.

You can find an endless selection of cat tree houses online, but always be sure to check your local stores first. It is always better to buy something you can actually inspect for quality and reliability. Plus, you will have to assemble it yourself if the tree comes in the mail.

Cat posts can actually be dangerous to your cat. This is something I have touched on before (my cat being hurt by a cheap cat scratch post) and some people have emailed me with similar stories. So suffice it to say, but my experience with cheap cat scratch posts isn’t an isolated incident.

This is why you want to make sure that when you buy a cat post, that you are getting one that is completely safe for your cat. This means buying a post that is not only durable, but one that is made out of safe materials as well. You want to look for a cat post that is made of all natural materials, such as the glue, wood and the fabric used to make it.

I have seen several sites selling bamboo cat posts, which is about as natural as you can get. Both the wood and fabric are made from bamboo, and there aren’t any harmful dyes or other treatment process used.

Of course those type of towers aren’t always easy to find and many can be quite expensive. So it isn’t an option for everyone, unfortunately. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t still take steps to find a safer and more natural cat scratching post.

You should always look for posts made of natural, untreated wood. The process used to treat the wood uses harmful chemicals that can be dangerous to your cats health. You also need to consider the kind of glue used to adhere the fabric to the wood. You want to avoid buying posts that use toxic glues and adhesives.

Finding these cat posts can take some effort, but I have seen them online and in several pet stores. So don’t be afraid to go that extra mile to ensure your cat’s safety – they are worth it!

A cat tree is a wonderful way to keep your cat entertained and to keep them away from your furniture. My cats were pretty brutal on my good furniture when I first got them many years ago. Within a month they were ruining my favorite couch, and I had to find a solution and I needed it fast. That’s when a friend suggested cat trees. Being a new cat owner I wasn’t quite sure if this would resolve the problem, but after purchasing a cat tree, then training my cats to use it – I was able to save my couch!

If you are looking for cat tree furniture, you should be mindful of the fact that there are an endless amount of models you can buy. A more expensive one doesn’t necessarily mean it will be better. You want to look for a tree that is well put together and can take a real pounding for at least several years, if not more. Here are a few highly reviewed cat towers that I would recommend:

Armarkat Cat Tree (Model A7401) – this model always gets nothing put high praise and positive reviews from its owners. It is made of durable faux fur and sturdy plywood, so it can handle whatever your cat throws at it. It has three levels with plenty of places your kitty can hide or if he prefers, just sit parched atop of the towers.

Go Pet Club Cat Furniture Tree Condo (Model F08) – this is another highly reviewed cat tree that gets nothing but positive reviews everywhere I look. It is made of durable faux fur as well and sisal rope. The base structure is pressed wood and is quite sturdy. This tree isn’t as fancy as the one above, but it has two levels and enough amenities to keep any cat busy and happy.

As I touched on earlier, you want to look for durable materials and to make sure that there aren’t any protruding nails or worn edges that can harm your cat before buying any tree.

Cats are a great pet to have especially if you have a hectic work schedule. They are very independent and can stay occupied indoors for long stretches at a time. Plus they use litter boxes which can stay indoors meaning you never have to worry about an accident after missing a walk. The one downside to owning a cat that all cat owners will mention is their claws.

From the time a cat is a small kitten it has sharp little claws that are perfect for scratching for fun or defense. In addition to being great for scratching the claws are great for helping your cat cling to surfaces when they are running around. Many cat owners have been horrified to find that their couches and other furniture have been scratched to bits just because your cats have been jumping from surface to surface during their random play. Worst, some cat owners have had their furniture, linen, and other surfaces scratched up simply because their cats felt like sharpening their claws on whatever surface was handy. A good way to avoid this wear and tear on your furniture, draperies, and bed spreads is to invest in a good cat tower.

Cat furniture towers are a great place for cats to play which will discourage them from jumping on your furniture when they are bored or playful. The average cat tower is a tall structure that is perfect for your cat to jump and climb on. They often provide little cubby holes that your cat can curl up and sleep in when they are tired out from all of their playing. Best of all they are covered in material that is perfect for scratching so your cats will spend their time sharpening their claws on the new tower rather than clawing your furniture to shreds.

Cat towers come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes so you do not have to worry about buying something that is too big or too small. There are cat furniture towers that are perfect for one cat and some that are designed with two or more cats in mind. They also come in a wide variety of colors and materials so you do not have to worry about settling for something that will clash horribly with your own furniture. These days’ cat furniture towers are designed with the cat owners wishes in mind in addition to the cats. Many pet supply retailers now offer cat furniture towers that boast attractive designs that all cat owners would be proud to display out in the open.

Best of all, cat furniture towers are extremely affordable. Even cat furniture towers that are tall, elaborate, and meant for multiple cats are reasonably priced. Cat owners do not have to worry about breaking their budget just to save their furniture. Also, since cat furniture towers are reasonably priced, they can be replaced as often as necessary without causing financial hardship to the cat owner. Even though cat furniture towers are made to last and are much more durable than most people realize they will, eventually, start looking a bit threadbare. Thanks to the great prices charged by most retailers online and off-line cat furniture towers can easily be replaced with newer, fresher, looking towers whenever the owner feels the need.
