New cat owners and even long time cat owners assume that buying a cat tower is an easy choice, but they couldn’t be more wrong. I was like this at one time, until I learned my lesson the hard way. When I first got my cat, I bought the cheapest tower I could find, and of course my decision came with consequences.

It took less than a month for me to find out the difference between a cheap tower and a well built one. One day while jumping on his tower, my cat landed on the top floor and it gave way, sending him crashing down to the floor. While he was ok, the loose floor needed to be glued back together. That lasted about another week until it fell apart again.

This is when I decided to buy another tower, but first I talked to some experienced cat owners before buying my next one.. Here is a list of the tips they gave me to make the right decision:

Be sure to choose natural wood material over treated wood, which can be toxic. Many of these treated woods contain unnatural adhesives.

Many poor quality towers can get worn quickly. This not only makes it less enjoyable for your cat to scratch on, but the shabby appearance can really be an eyesore in your home. So be sure to to buy towers made of the highest quality fabrics.

Check to make sure that the glue used to bond the material is non-toxic.

You want to look for a tower that is put together using a combination of screws, nails and non-toxic glue. If the material is held together only using glue, this is a red flag that it will wear quickly.

By using the tips provided for you above, you should be able to find a high quality cat tower that your kitty will enjoy safely for many years to come!

Cats are cute. Cats are loveable. Unfortunately, many cats love to scratch your furniture and carpets. If you do not want to replace your sofa every few months, you will need to train your cat to use cat scratching posts. Although this is not a difficult task, it can be time-consuming. It needs a lot of love, patience and understanding from you. If you cannot make this kind of commitment to your feline friend, you are better of giving him away.

Having said that, here is a shortcut which work for many cats. Catnip works wonders for training your cat to use the scratching post. For your convenience, modern science has created a catnip spray which you can use to spray the cat scratching post. You should place this post near the sofa or furniture where your cat likes to scratch. You should also get a cat repellant spray – to spray the places where he likes to scratch.

Many cats scratch furniture as a means of marking their territory. The scratching serves as a visible mark and also leaves behind a scent from the glands in his paws. This means your cat, or cats, probably have more than one favorite piece of furniture where they like to scratch. You will need to buy more than one scratching post.

Cats also scratch furniture as part of their exercise, as well as to shed the dead outer layers of their claws. You should not buy a cat scratching post just because it looks cool. You should buy a post which fits your cat best. One way is to find something which feels like your furniture or carpet. Do not limit your thoughts to just a scratching post. Cats which like to scratch carpets often respond well to something flat laid down flat on the ground. If your cat is like this, it may take longer to train him to use a vertical scratching post.

Given this fact, it is better if you only buy cat scratching posts from your local shops – where you can see and feel the material of the post. If it looks or feels different from the furniture which your cat is scratching now, he is unlikely to switch to the new post. This factor makes buying cat furniture online a bit chancy.

Cat scratching posts bought from the store can be expensive for some cat owners. Here are some ideas for cheap, homemade cat furniture:

Cheap, square pieces of carpet which you can buy from Wal Mart, etc. Should cost you under $10. You may also be able to get some free from your local carpet shop.

Cardboard cartons and boxes – you should be able to get these free from your local grocery shop.

Wooden logs.

Old furniture, or parts of old furniture. If you have some handy wood-working skills, you can turn a small cabinet into a cat house.

Rough wooden planks.

Here is another shortcut to prevent your cat from damaging your furniture – regularly take him to the vet to get his nails clipped, either once or twice a month. The vet will clip the hooked part of the claw. This is the part which causes the most damage to your furniture and carpet. You may want the vet to teach you how to do it yourself. Please note that this is different from declawing your cat, which is cruel and inhumane. Declawing actually involves chopping off the tips of your cats toes. How would you feel if someone cut off the tips of your fingers?

Some cats appear intransigent, and refuse to use the cat scratching post. The fact is, you may just need to understand him better. And also use a different way of training him. You have to remember that shortcuts do not always work.

A cat box is a necessary evil for a cat loving family. Ugly and messy, we put up with them day after day. If you love your kitty there is no other choice, right? Well, thanks to the development of cat furniture, you have the possibility for a wonderful upgrade from the old litter box.

You may have the cat litter box in a far away corner, down in the laundry room or even in the basement. Although the main reason for putting it out of the way may be to hide it, it also provides a useful purpose, a place of privacy for you kitty. In some large homes this may be easy to do. But many cat owners today live in smaller, modest homes that can not quite support the needs of both the cat and the owner.

So if you don’t have a basement or if you don’t want the litter box in the bathroom, what are you going to do? No one likes to see a litter box out in the open. This is not going to be visually pleasing to you and your guests. The cat will not appreciate it either as there is very little privacy when placed this way. The answer to this ongoing problem is cat litter furniture. Now you can hide the cat litter box inside a beautiful piece of solid wood furniture. This will solve the problem of both the cats privacy as the box is hidden inside the cabinet, and the owner who can now place the litter box anywhere in the house. Cat litter furniture looks beautiful and can double as a functional end table.

Cat litter furniture can accommodate the decor of any home with the many colors and styles available. The cat litter cabinet is one of the most popular. This type hides the cat box inside a wood cabinet. It is very versatile as there is easy access to the inside with openings on the sides. There is also ease of access to the inside for cleaning and because it serves multiple purposes it can be useful to all. The size of the litter cabinet is based on the size of the cat and the litter box. The best thing about this unit is the fact that it can be placed anywhere in the house. You can place books, knick-knacks or anything else on top just like an end table or book case.

When you decide to switch out the old litter box, you need to take a few things into consideration. Of course the optimal time to put in a new litter box is when your cat is a kitten. If you switch out the litter box on an older cat just be sure to make the transition a slow one. It would be a good idea to keep both litter boxes available at the same time while your kitty adjusts to the new one. Another idea would be to just place the cabinet in the desired location while you slowly move the litter box closer and closer until it is finally placed inside the cabinet. Give your kitty praise when you see him use the new cat furniture and always keep it clean as possible!

The most important thing about your cat litter furniture is that it is a barometer of your cat health. If you notice your kitty is not making his regular visits to the box then something is up! You may notice that you cat has a case of diarrhea. This would indicate a definite problem is at hand. Sometimes a cat will even lay down in it’s cat box, this is a sign of possible serious sickness or other problems as cats usually have very clean habits. If you notice any of these signs or symptoms you should be sure to contact your vet.

Now, go shopping for a great new piece of cat litter furniture!

You have decided that it’s time for your family to get a pet. So, one Saturday everybody piles in the van and you head to the local animal shelter to pick out a new cat, but before you go any further, do you have everything in place for that new family member? To start with, you are going to need to get some cat furniture for it.

Cat furniture is the perfect way for your new cat to feel right at home because it will give him or her his or her own place to go whenever it might want to. One of the must have purchases that you need to make is getting a cat house or kitty condo. This will offer your companion a nice place to sleep instead of on your bed at night. One will generally by thicker and circular in shape, featuring enclosed sleeping areas where you cat can go to get comfy. Sometimes, they will be only one level with one opening, but other times there are two, three, even four level options available, ideal for if you have more than one cat. Typically, it will be made out of some type of durable material, like wood or plastic, that will then be covered in a sturdy fabric, like carpeting, so your cat won’t ruin it.

In addition to a cat house or kitty condo, another must have cat furniture selection is a place where your cat can go and let off some of its steam. One great option where he can do just that is a cat tree.

It has the general shape of a real tree with a center pole with additional poles sticking out of it. Like the cat house, it is made from a wood/plastic and carpeting combo, providing your cat with an awesome place to run, jump, and play. If you are short on space, then a scratching post would be a good investment since it still offers your cat a place to get rid of its pent up energy by scratching.

These are just a few of the cat furniture selections that are available as well because there are many, many others. Like, deluxe cat gyms, perches, hanging ropes, and stairs. To see all the choices that you could purchase for your cat, along with all those must needed supplies that one will need like a collar, toys, brushes, a litter box and kitty litter, food, and anything else your cat might need is by jumping on the Internet for some online shopping. In no time at all can you get everything that you need for your new pet and it will be shipped right to your home. Now, that is convenient, especially with today’s gas prices.

So, if you are planning on welcoming a new cat into your family, make sure that you purchase some cat furniture for it so it can really feel at home. Otherwise, it might feel lost if it doesn’t have a place all to its own.

Cats are a great pet to have especially if you have a hectic work schedule. They are very independent and can stay occupied indoors for long stretches at a time. Plus they use litter boxes which can stay indoors meaning you never have to worry about an accident after missing a walk. The one downside to owning a cat that all cat owners will mention is their claws.

From the time a cat is a small kitten it has sharp little claws that are perfect for scratching for fun or defense. In addition to being great for scratching the claws are great for helping your cat cling to surfaces when they are running around. Many cat owners have been horrified to find that their couches and other furniture have been scratched to bits just because your cats have been jumping from surface to surface during their random play. Worst, some cat owners have had their furniture, linen, and other surfaces scratched up simply because their cats felt like sharpening their claws on whatever surface was handy. A good way to avoid this wear and tear on your furniture, draperies, and bed spreads is to invest in a good cat tower.

Cat furniture towers are a great place for cats to play which will discourage them from jumping on your furniture when they are bored or playful. The average cat tower is a tall structure that is perfect for your cat to jump and climb on. They often provide little cubby holes that your cat can curl up and sleep in when they are tired out from all of their playing. Best of all they are covered in material that is perfect for scratching so your cats will spend their time sharpening their claws on the new tower rather than clawing your furniture to shreds.

Cat towers come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes so you do not have to worry about buying something that is too big or too small. There are cat furniture towers that are perfect for one cat and some that are designed with two or more cats in mind. They also come in a wide variety of colors and materials so you do not have to worry about settling for something that will clash horribly with your own furniture. These days’ cat furniture towers are designed with the cat owners wishes in mind in addition to the cats. Many pet supply retailers now offer cat furniture towers that boast attractive designs that all cat owners would be proud to display out in the open.

Best of all, cat furniture towers are extremely affordable. Even cat furniture towers that are tall, elaborate, and meant for multiple cats are reasonably priced. Cat owners do not have to worry about breaking their budget just to save their furniture. Also, since cat furniture towers are reasonably priced, they can be replaced as often as necessary without causing financial hardship to the cat owner. Even though cat furniture towers are made to last and are much more durable than most people realize they will, eventually, start looking a bit threadbare. Thanks to the great prices charged by most retailers online and off-line cat furniture towers can easily be replaced with newer, fresher, looking towers whenever the owner feels the need.
